  A membrane switch is a user interface device that typically consists of multiple layers of flexible materials, including graphic overlay, a membrane layer with printed circuits, spacer layers, and a backer layer etc. When a pressing motion on the buttons is applied, the circuitry printed on the membrane layer will contact and provide a closed signal to the mother board.

Membrane switches are commonly used in electronic devices and control panels to provide a reliable and cost-effective method for user input with the key features of compactness, durability, and flexibility etc. The design flexibility of membrane switches allows for customization in terms of appearance, size, and functionality, making them versatile solutions for various applications in industries like consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial controls.

  Metal Dome Solution is the most widely used solution in membrane switch. A nickel plated or golden plated stainless dome works as a momentary button to generate a closed signal when the buttons are pressed. A metal dome could provide the user with a satisfying tactility (click feeling) feedback. This solution features exceptional user experience, affordable cost and long lifecycle.

  Poly Dome Solution is made from a raised poly (polyester or polycarbonate) button, not a metal dome. It can still provide the user with a good tactility (click feeling) feedback which is similar with a metal dome. But, why polydome? Two points, -It will help you lower the cost if your membrane switch contains many buttons-In some applications, metal objects are forbidden because they could cause electromagnetic interference or other undesirable effects.

  Flat key Solution is no tactility (click feeling) in flat key membrane switch. You can’t feel the plateau on the button and no click sound can be heard when the buttons are pressed. Why use that? It is the most inexpensive and long-life solution. Typically, flat key membrane switch can be found in some home appliances, like microwave oven.
