A capacitive touch keypad is an up-to-date electrical switch. It operates as a touch-controlled switch, which detects changes in capacitance to function. It does not require any mechanical components, but detecting the alteration of capacitance and trigger the corresponding action for the specific key or area touched.
The main advantages of capacitive touch keypad include high sensitivity, rapid response, long lifespan, easy cleaning, and excellent waterproof and dustproof performance. All these features enable capacitive touch keypad to surpass conventional keypads in many applications.
How does it work?
Its general working principle is, the controller detects the capacitance between the switch and ground. When a finger or conductor touches the switch, the capacitance between the switch and ground changes. This change will be detected by the controller and the corresponding action will be triggered.
The users may choose the material of the keypad overlay according to their preferences. The common material choices include glass, PMMA, polycarbonate, polyester, metal etc. And, specific textures or coatings can be applied to the material surface to enhance the tactility and accuracy of keys. Furthermore, customized graphic can be printed on the material, which beautifully improve the user interface.
